Youth Income Opportunities Cluster of Action - this intervention provides youth with resilience and sustainable income opportunities within the sphere of the circular economy as the basis for mobilising them for civic engagement.
The Citizen Participation Cluster of Action (CIPCA) - this intervention facilitates youth of Busia County to meaningfully engage in the decisions made by the government and related institutions.
The Civic Awareness Cluster of Action (CACA) - this intervention conscientizes residents of Busia County on their rights and obligations as citizens of Kenya and residents of the County. It is expected to lead to increased civic awareness among Busia residents.
The Citizen-led Accountability Cluster of Action (CLACA) - this intervention deploys youth in the county to monitor the government and related institutions’ performance in discharging their mandate.
Currently ongoing, the Make Youth Active in Civic Transformation (My ACT) is a funded project by the KIOS Foundation under the Haki Ni Yetu programme. It is a cross-cutting ABEDEV project supporting at least 3 of the organisation’s strategic cluster of actions, namely the Youth Civic Awareness Cluster of Action, the Youth-led Accountability Cluster of Action and the Youth Participation in Government Decision-making Cluster of Action. The project aims at mobilizing at least 370 young people (male, female and youth with disabilities) across Samia subcounty and organising them into a network called the Youth Leadership Structure (YLS) for promoting active youth engagement in governance, rights, development and civic processes across Samia subcounty and within the larger Busia County.
Abenengo for Development (ABEDEV) has been recognized by the civil society organization Siasa Place for successfully lobbying the government to murram a critical stretch of the Munana-Sigalame-Sio Port road in Funyula sub-county.
Once dotted with deep potholes and nearly impassable during rainy seasons, the road now boasts a smooth red-earth surface – a significant change that locals say has restored access, dignity, and safety to their daily journeys.
Siasa Place, through its “Wall of Fame” initiative, spotlights local actors championing accountability and development. According to the Siasa Place, Abenengo CBO met all criteria for recognition – including community engagement, sustained advocacy, and measurable impact.
